The Different Benefits of Painting for Kids
- Jun 27, 2017
“Why’s painting good for my kid? Does it really have any positive influence on their curriculum?”
Well, I have seen many parents coming up to their kids’ art and craft teachers in schools with questions like that. It’s an interesting question indeed, especially when you consider the burden of the mainstream subjects that a student has to tackle almost each day of a week.
Anyway, in this article, I will try to provide a detailed answer to those questions systematically. So let’s begin without further ado.
1. Improved communication
Art makes us more humane. It gives us a whole new method of communication than the traditional sign and speech communication.
This can also make it an effective teaching instrument for kids have special needs (like the ones suffering from dyslexia or ADHD). Expressing through art is definitely one of the best things that you can ever see in a lifetime. It’s beautiful and effective at the same time.
Long hours of studies can do your child more harm than good. A constructive power break is required in between to get the best possible results.
Painting can give your kid a much-required breather. It relaxes the mind and at the same time, it also allows the imagination to flow in almost any direction. You will surely be surprised to see the positive results that are going to come with it.
3. Painting helps to promote self-esteem and self-belief in kids
Working together in a closed and relaxed environment (in the presence of a teacher) can definitely bring the best out of any kid especially when s/he is allowed the freedom to channelize his/her imagination in any way s/he deem fit.
It helps to increase the self-confidence and self-esteem in the kid who starts believing in the fact that everything’s achievable and doable if s/he has the desire to achieve the same by turning his/her plans into actions via methodical planning. Small things like that can definitely go a long way indeed.
4. Painting also helps to improve dexterity in kids
This is basically a no-brainer.
Painting is complex job indeed. You need to skillfully use a pencil or a brush and then make something beautiful out of nothing on the piece of paper or canvass in front of you. You need to exhibit a lot of skill to make such a thing happen. There’s no short cut to success especially when painting is concerned.
The careful movement of your fingers and the wrist accompanied by your imagination are the only weapons that you have in your arsenal. So you can very well see the way it can improve your dexterity; can’t you?
Also note that painting can also indirectly improve your handwriting. Now this is something that’s deemed priceless these days for a number of unfavorable reasons. So painting can definitely be a lifesaver in current circumstances.
5. Painting helps to promote concentration in kids
Art involves a whole lot of concentration. You need to concentrate hard to create something entirely on your own. So naturally, you can very well see how painting makes it possible for kids to develop their concentration and determination to achieve something extraordinary out of nothing. Now that’s what I call positivity.
Note: This is particularly very helpful for kids suffering from ADHD. ADHD kids usually exhibits signs of extreme restlessness. They hardly stay at one place for an extended period of time because of their lack of concentration. Engagement in art and craft can get this situation under control at least to a certain extent.
So is there anything not to like? Guess not!
6. Painting is a form of brain activity that can benefit kids in general
Any constructive brain activity can benefit kids in general. That’s because it helps one to think which is something that’s primarily needed to improve one’s problem solving skills.
Painting is one such brain activity that can go a long way indeed if it’s done in the right manner.
7. Last but not the least, painting is fun
Painting is a clean and an effective means of entertainment when it’s done the right way under the supervision of a competent art tutor. If that doesn’t qualify as a benefit, don’t know what will.
