How Early in Life Should Students Receive Training for the Work Environment?

An old adage rightly says “Early bird catches the worm”. The same principle applies to students to want to make it big in their lives and make a great career.

Children have impressionable minds and about 90% of the development of their brain happens during early years, hence it perfectly makes sense to spot their latent talents and catch them young.

Children have enormous energy and potential as compared with people from other age groups and helping them to channelize their energies in right direction and productive activities can produce amazing results. It is the duties of parents and teachers to help the students in realizing their potential.

As parents and teachers, you can encourage children to achieve greatness and help them in building successful careers by providing them the right education and training.

Students should be given training for the work environment right from the beginning of their childhood so that it becomes an integral part of their when they grow up. They must be taught positive traits such as honesty, discipline, diligence, and punctuality that will help them to develop a strong personality and character.

Parents, tutors and teachers should lay a strong foundation stone in the lives of students so that they can build a strong career in the later stage.

Training and mentoring is not a one day process and it takes years to be effective. Therefore, appropriate training and mentoring must be provided in different phases of the lives of students.

Phase I (starting from 3-4 years to 7 years)

A child does usually goes to school at 3-4 years of age, so parents and teachers must start preparing them for the real world at this age. In this phase, parents and teachers must teach the right values and admirable traits such as politeness, decency, honesty, discipline, punctuality, diligence to the students. These traits are necessary in the professional environment and students must be taught to inculcate these characteristics at a tender age. Parents and teachers must encourage children to be spontaneous and observe what they love and how they behave.

Phase II (from 8 years to 11 years)

In this age group, students are required to focus more on studies and the pressures of academic activities gather pace. Parents and teachers must ensure that students complete their assignments and projects diligently on time. However, they must not instigate students to become excessively competitive and encourage them to appreciate team work, collaboration, and group activities. Teachers should find out the natural talents and flairs the students have and encourage them to pursue their interests more seriously.

Phase III (from 12 years to 15 years)

As students attend high school, they find themselves in a new academic environment. They are expected to perform at their level best and excel in extracurricular activities as well. This is the time teachers and parents should teach the students to focus on their studies and also take part in sporting events. Teachers must also teach them life skills, critical thinking skills, decision making skills, and leadership skills.

Phase IV (from 16 years to 20 years)

In this age group, students attend higher secondary school and college and are required to take up subjects as per their aptitudes and choices. In this phase, the students must be instructed to understand their subjects thoroughly as they will be working on their specialization subjects for their entire job career unless they choose some other subjects or fields.
