This is the annual entrance examination for India's most prestigious engineering colleges, The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) with the lowest acceptance rate. It is usually taken by students after completing the 12th standard in their school. A staggering 1.36 million students appeared for the exam in 2014 and only 9784 students got accepted. This indicates an acceptance rate of 0.7%, which is 8 times higher than that of Harvard. This is because a seat in the IITs guarantees a stairway to a successful career. This exam debuted in 1960 and has since gained prominence by building a strong influence in contemporary Indian society.
