Ways to Concentrate On Studies Despite Having Noise Around You
- Apr 03, 2017
Noise creates a lot of distractions and makes focusing on things rather difficult. Students face a lot of trouble due to noise especially if they are trying to study. An attempt to concentrate in such a noisy environment often seems to fail and causes a lot of stress. But there are several ways in which you can fight the noise around you and regain your concentration and tranquility during studies.
Let us have a look at a few of these ways.
Systematize Your Work in a Different Way
If you live in a noisy environment, try and identify the time when the noise is rather tumultuous. Assign uncomplicated tasks which do not require much concentration for that time period. Try moving to a library or some other place if the work is urgent and requires higher concentration.
Try Noise-Cancelling Headphones or Earplugs
Earplugs are a great way to get rid of all the noise and are very affordable as well. The noise canceling headphones are a bit expensive than the earplugs but are very useful especially if you live in a very noisy environment. Experiment with what works the best for you.
Listen To Relaxing Music While Studying
This technique might not work for all of you but, it is often found that some students are able to concentrate better when they listen to music. Listening to music such as trance, lyrics free music, classical or any other is an excellent way to cancel out all the background noise and improve your concentration level.
Address the Issue
If you feel that you are not able to get away from the noise, the best way to deal with it would be to address the problem. There might be loud music playing nearby your home, consider speaking to everyone involved politely. Talk to everyone in your neighborhood if required. They might also be facing similar issues and you might not be the only one. The key is to remain calm and polite.
Take Regular Breaks and Calm Your Senses
Any kind of noise can be rather stressful and deleterious to health. Try taking short breaks while studying and relax. You could go for a walk or indulge in anything that helps you to calm down. Sit in a comfortable position and stretch your arms and legs. Relax your mind and body. Talk to your teachers if you feel the need to.
Shut Your Doors and Windows to Block External Sound
This is a short term solution so as to isolate the room that you are studying in. check to ensure that the doors and the windows are shut tightly. You could also try placing a few pillows against the wall. It would absorb the noise from the other side of the wall. Thermal curtains will help to stop the sound from outside and a carpet will absorb any sort of sound coming from downstairs. These are temporary solutions but work quite well.
Visualize What You Are Studying
When you feel that there is a lot of external noise, adopt the habit of visualizing whatever you are studying. Visualizing helps you to get involved in studies and concentrate more on it while the noises seem less. For instance, if you are studying chemistry, you could try and visualize the atoms rather than studying it. This technique is also helpful for students who find a certain topic boring. This makes everything easier to remember as well.
Create Visually Appealing Backgrounds
An aesthetically pleasing background can work on to stimulate the study factor. If your window provides a beautiful view of the garden, you can sit next to it. This also helps you to distress when external noise is troubling you. This would also help you to concentrate better.
Get a Sound Sleep
Sleep deprivation can have a very adverse effect on health. It also affects the concentration power and makes a person more sensitive towards the background noises. Try and get some sleep if you study in a noisy environment. It would help your mind to relax and concentrate better.
The above-mentioned ways would work effectively in helping you focus and block out any noise that might be troubling you. Tackle the situation in a smart way as focusing is an important learning requirement. Do your research and take help of the method that suits you the best.
